About

Alicia Brown is a fiber artist whose sculptural works are rooted in material integrity and sustainability. Guided by an intuitive process, she creates each piece through slow, deliberate layering, allowing form to emerge from the natural rhythms of the materials themselves. These materials are her muse and are hand-selected with intention. Cellulose fibers, mulberry bark, farm-direct wool from regenerative systems, salvaged cloth, and upcycled Indian saris are just a few of the materials used for their tactile richness and the stories they hold. By preserving their imperfections and provenance, Alicia invites a deeper conversation of value, process, and place while adding depth and authenticity to her work. Her practice draws on the rich history of fiber art, where weaving, knotting, and felting have not only served as functional crafts but also as acts of preservation, resistance, and cultural memory. She investigates this long-standing tradition, focusing on the narrative potential of her materials and their role in shaping personal and collective stories. Now reimagined through a modern, fine art lens, Alicia's work remains part of the enduring continuum of fiber art while actively advancing its place in contemporary dialogue.
