About

Alicia Brown is a fiber artist whose sculptural works are rooted in material integrity and sustainability. Guided by an intuitive process, she creates each piece through slow, deliberate layering, allowing form to emerge from the natural rhythms of the materials themselves. These materials are her muse and are hand-selected with intention. Cellulose fibers, mulberry bark, farm-direct wool from regenerative systems, salvaged cloth, and upcycled Indian saris are used for their tactile richness and the stories they hold. Their histories, imperfections, and origins inform the final composition as much as any design decision. These choices are not simply ethical; they add depth and authenticity to her work. Alicia's practice draws on the rich history of fiber art, where weaving, knotting, and felting have not only served as functional crafts but also as acts of preservation, resistance, and cultural memory. It explores this time-honored tradition of how materials carry narrative and how thoughtful making can shape personal and collective stories. Now reimagined through a progressive lens, Alicia's work becomes part of this enduring continuum rooted in the while advancing its place in contemporary dialogue.
